Local Attractions in the Gulf Coast of Florida

You are 10 to 15 minutes drive from many fine beaches. Among them Englewood, Stump Pass, Manasota Key and Boca Grande (Gasparilla Island). These are generally quieter beaches, but for something more lively cross the Myakka River and go to Port Charlotte Beach for various sea sport activities. Gasparilla Island beaches are ‘shell-rich’ and also have limitless fossilised sharks teeth just waiting to be picked up. Youngsters and older (grown-up) kids will enjoy hunting here. Captiva and Sanibel Islands, although further away and near Fort Myers, are definitely worth the drive to visit. Sanibel has a wildlife refuge.

The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are generally teaming with wild life so you will see Dolphins, Manatees, Cormorants, Pelicans, Ospreys and many other sea birds too numerous to name here.

Fishing trips are easily arranged – closest place is Placida. Rent a boat and fish the Gulf or the inter coastal waterway. Don’t forget to get your licence! – at Walmart.

The Palms, another 18-hole championship course offers 6 different water hazards, multi-tiered greens and tow of Florida’s most demanding holes.
The Hills is an 18-hole course in the Oaklands Hills community heavily dotted with greens among the best rolling in the area
The Links is Cape Haze’s only golf course. An 18-hole executive length golf course with water comprising 35 of the 80 acres of land with an assortment of grassy hollow, pot bunkers, multi-fingered sand traps and triple tiered greens.

Of course ‘shopperholics’ are well catered for with Port Charlotte Shopping Mall just 15 minutes drive away. Fisherman’s Village at Punt Gorda is a waterfront mall and marina where you can also book fishing or sightseeing trips. Slightly further away South is Miramar Outlets.
